The Years Ahead Are Not Long Anymore
Few years ago, I taught I was very much younger.
I was (and still) full of dreams about a good life and highly desirous about a great future.
I was always bombarded with the thoughts of good, leaving no room for the bad side of life.
Just like every religious person will pray not to have a rough and tough life. I prayed same way.
Why the prayer?
I was full of aspirations and expectations for the future.
But as I age, I began to realise that things don't always go as planned.
The goals of getting good job at age X may not be met.
The dream of getting married to the senator's daughter may not be fulfilled.
The aspiration of becoming the youngest graduate ever even though possible and it comes to pass might seem pointless and meaningless at some points in life.
Nobody knows if the market of job hunting will favour the young graduate or not, especially in a saturated market where you need 5 years of experience to land a job as a 20-year-old.
I've heard of people who finished early but it later turned out that they are late comers when it comes to accomplishing their goals and life’s aspirations.
With the narrative above, some people will conclude that life is not balanced.
Why?
Some people are finding it easy navigating life while others are barely surviving the tide of the sea of life.
Talking of people who find it easy:
• They married at the time they set.
• They got their first million before they clocked twenty.
• By thirty, they are already at the roundtable with toothpick in their mouths, chilling with the billionaires and clubbing Elon Musk and sipping coffee with Mark Zuckerberg.
•
I think I'm deflecting. Let me return back to the track.
What I'll like to point out in this article is this:
Your years are counting—faster than the clock of your imagination.
And your clock is ticking—tic-tac-tic-tac…
Let me refresh your memory with that popular nursery school rhyme.
It says “Time waits for no man.”
Plans about who you'll become in the next five, ten or twenty years starts from now.
Yes, NOW.
Just like a young teenager brimming with dreams will say that by twenty, they want to be through with their college years.
Same way we will see young adults planning to become the eraser of their family poverty.
A lot of dreams and aspirations keeps popping up like strong fart ready to rip the anus apart.
But what later become of most plans?
Nothing.
Nada.
Absolutely nothing.
Shitty and trashy.
Let me explain what I mean by nothing.
I discovered that most people with great purpose and very big dreams soon part ways with their vision because they lack focus.
Their aspirations though great is too much for them to bear. It overwhelms their heart and fatigues them.
They are torn apart, confused, discombobulated and negatively palpated about what step is the next to take.
They’re utterly and totally confused about what to do.
They soon lose focus of themselves and their dream perish leaving them alive directionless.
It's good you have planned your life.
But there is an element—let’s call it virtue that you must cherish in your heart to win in life.
It's called focus.
Focus is the strong drive and desire to succeed.
It's the microscope with which you view the microcosm and tiny pieces of the whole life.
With it, you see the financial future ahead of you.
With it, you view your marital future:
That's why as a man, you won't later need up becoming a gigolo or the wife in your heterosexual relationship.
Why?
You already have the sense of responsibility.
You know when it's time to love.
You know when not.
You know what it takes to be single and what it takes to be married.
You are already aware that you need to be physically, spiritually, psychologically and emotionally matured.
You are open to the knowledge of the risks in every decision you make or are about to make.
That's what focus does for you.
If you'll graduate early, all things being equal and if you are Nigerian, in the absence of industrial action, you have to be serious with your coursework.
Be punctual in class.
Be responsive to assignments and tasks in the class.
Be responsible to group work.
Have a high level of participation in group work and every other academic activity.
All these require discipline.
Discipline is a strand of the tree of focus.
Now when all these are done, the dream of finishing early cannot but come to true.
Why?
You gave in the work.
The reward is your desire that just come through.
You want to get married to a quality woman?
Start planning now. This is the right time.
It's not until you clock forty, having parted ways with your dreams during your twenties that you start seeking for the missing “Miss Alice”.
Your marital life begins the day you start being serious with your life.
No good woman will want to marry a bad man.
That’s a bad omen.
Why?
A bad man won't do either.
That's why it's very important to plan early and start off early in life.
That's what is important.
I'll conclude this article by repeating the headline:
The years ahead is not long anymore.
Start executing your business idea now.
Starts saving towards furthering your education now.
“Oh I have plans?”
Hmm! You have planned enough.
Start making bold move now.
If you don't act now, you'll just discover that years have passed and you are still where you are dreaming big and living like a poor rat.
Don't be idle anymore.
Your time has started.
Wake up from your dream and act now.
If you don't act, you won't be different from rat whose life cycle revolves around eating, reproducing and dying.
I know that's not the kind of life you desire.
If you don't want a messy future, it all boils down to your planning and execution, today.
Plan and prepare to work.
I can assure you that things will work out.
Reminder:
You are not getting younger anymore.
